If you’re worried about what we are doing to this planet, this song is for you.
I wrote it at a time when I was listening to a lot of 80s action movie theme songs.
The spirit of those songs is a very specific vibe and vision. A kind of 80s Hollywood idea of heroism so simplistic, literal, sweat-stained, and muscle-headed - so corny and dated - that I find it kind of adorable.
Perfect for a song about climate inaction, obviously.
Because yes, the main thing about living in a time of climate catastrophe is that it’s a catastrophe. As far as we know, our planet is the only home to intelligent life in the universe, and we’re damaging it.
But it’s also a chance for everyday heroism.
Did our grandparents’ generation get to do their bit to protect earth by, say, replacing a boiler or trying a plant-based sausage?
No.
But they’d have jumped at the chance.
